Mooquer's photochromic glasses have a lens that darkens and lightens on its own according to the light it receives. One pair of glasses for the whole outing, from the shade of the forest to open sun, without stopping to change lens. Models from the Nordic brand CHPO, with a recycled-plastic frame and UV400 protection.

How do photochromic glasses work?

The photochromic lens reacts to ultraviolet radiation. When there's a lot of light it darkens to protect you from glare, and when it drops, in a tunnel, a shaded area or as evening falls, it lightens so you keep seeing well. All automatically and in seconds. It's the most convenient option if you train in changing light conditions.

What sports are photochromic glasses good for?

They're ideal for cycling, running and trail, where the light changes constantly during the same outing: you go in and out of forest, pass through tunnels, ride from shade to sun. Instead of carrying several lenses and swapping them, a photochromic adapts on its own. That's why they're so popular among cyclists and runners who train long mornings or shaded terrain.

Are photochromic lenses worth paying for?

If you do long outings or in variable light, yes, because they save you swapping glasses or being stuck with the wrong lens halfway through training. If you only go out in full, steady sun, a fixed polarised lens may be enough. The photochromic wins on versatility and convenience.

One lens for the whole day. The outing sets the rules, the glasses adapt.
