Not all sweatbands are created equal
What Is a Chamois and Why It Defines Your Comfort
The chamois is the padded insert located in the crotch of cycling shorts that protects the perineal area, sit bones, and genitals from pressure, friction, and saddle vibrations. It is the component that most determines whether a four-hour ride ends well or badly, which is why at Mooquer, we treat it as an engineering decision, not just a filler.
Not all chamois are the same or serve the same purpose. Their density, thickness, the number of foam layers, and how these densities are distributed change completely depending on the discipline, the duration of the ride, and the body's position on the bike. A thin and light road chamois will not provide protection during a gravel ride with constant vibration, and a thick, long-distance chamois will hinder a triathlon transition.
All chamois we use at Mooquer are manufactured in Italy, where the best European tradition of technical chamois construction is concentrated. We work with four platforms, each developed for a specific use: Float Road for road and ultra-distance, Komorebi for gravel and MTB, Gaman for daily multidisciplinary use, and Trion for triathlon.
How to Choose the Right Chamois
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Types of sweatbands
There are four factors, in this order: foam density, not thickness; the discipline you practice; the average duration of your rides; and your gender, because the morphology of the pelvis is different. A thicker chamois is not more comfortable. A thick but low-density foam flattens when you sit down and stops protecting you. What provides real support is density, measured in kg/m³, and that this density is distributed in zones according to where the body rests.
The more hours and impact, the more density and layers. Short, low-intensity rides require thin, light chamois with a single density. Long rides, gran fondos, gravel, and MTB rides require chamois with two or three densities, with the firmest foam in the sit bone area and the softest in contact with the skin. High densities in the industry range from 80 to 140 kg/m³ in load-bearing areas.
For road cycling and ultra-distance, a low-profile, lightweight chamois with concentrated support on the sit bones, like Float Road. For gravel and MTB, a multi-density chamois with a larger padded area that absorbs vibration and impacts, like Komorebi. For daily and multi-discipline use, a balanced, seamless chamois like Gaman. For triathlon, a low-volume, quick-drying chamois that won't interfere with running, like Trion.
Yes, and it's relevant. The anatomy of the pelvis and perineal area differs between men and women, so women's chamois are usually shorter and wider, with a different padding distribution. Choosing a chamois designed for your morphology reduces chafing and numbness on long rides.
A well-maintained technical chamois pad will last several thousand kilometers before losing its properties. Foam degrades with sweat and use, and loses its recovery capacity over time. When you notice more vibration or discomfort after a few hours, or the area no longer feels fresh after a good wash, it's time to replace your bib shorts. Always wash with cold water, without fabric softener, and air dry.
Mooquer offers four chamois pads, all made in Italy: Float Road for road and ultra-distance, Komorebi for gravel and MTB, Gaman for multi-discipline use, and Trion for triathlon.
All Mooquer chamois are manufactured in Italy, the European reference center for technical cycling chamois construction.
Float Road, with its double-layer floating construction and concentrated support on the sit bones, designed for rides over seven hours on the road.
Komorebi, which integrates three foam densities and a larger cushioning zone to absorb impacts and vibrations on uneven terrain.
Yes. Trion is designed specifically for middle and long-distance triathlon and duathlon, with a Poron® front insert, low-volume profile, and quick-drying for the run transition.

The feeling of forgetting you're wearing a chamois
Float Road — Road and Ultradistance
Float Road is Mooquer's cycling pad for road, endurance, and ultra-cycling, designed for those who spend many consecutive hours in the saddle. Its double-layer floating construction allows the pad to move naturally with the cyclist's body, reduces friction, and improves adaptation during long days of pedaling.
The surface in contact with the skin remains soft, stable, and free of unnecessary pressure points. The three-dimensional design of the side wings accompanies each phase of the pedal stroke, and the variable height channels keep the pad always in position. Foam is removed where it is not needed and support is concentrated exactly where the body needs it, over the sit bones.
The result is an exceptional feeling of comfort even after many hours of riding.

Engineered to absorb the unpredictable
Komorebi — Gravel and MTB
Komorebi is the Mooquer chamois for gravel and MTB, developed for terrain where impacts, vibrations, and constant changes in position demand superior protection. When the ground is no longer perfect, the chamois becomes an even more crucial component.
Its structure combines three foams of different densities integrated into a single platform, capable of efficiently distributing loads and maintaining comfort during long days off-road. The base incorporates an anatomical system that promotes the natural centering of the chamois and allows it to follow the body's movements during extensions, twists, and frequent changes in posture.
More protection where it matters, more stability, and more control when the terrain gets demanding.
The Gaman is the chamois that equips our Deep Black and Deep Grey bib shorts, and it represents our vision of a chamois capable of performing in any discipline. Inspired by a renowned Italian platform, it combines ergonomics, freedom of movement, and comfort to accompany you on road, gravel, MTB, or daily training rides.
Its one-piece thermoformed structure eliminates central seams, reduces friction, and improves smoothness in contact with the skin. The flexible side wings follow the natural movement of the legs, and the central channel promotes circulation and reduces pressure on sensitive areas during long rides.
A very balanced chamois, notable for its adaptability and for offering a level of comfort far superior to what is typically found in entry-level bib shorts.

Designed to perform when every second counts
Trion — Triathlon and Duathlon
Trion is the Mooquer chamois pad for middle and long-distance triathlon and duathlon. Triathlon demands something different from traditional cycling: the chamois pad must provide sufficient comfort on the bike without compromising freedom of movement during the run or gaining weight when wet.
That is why Trion has been developed with reference to the aerodynamic position adopted by the athlete during much of the competition. When the body rests on the aero bars, the pressure points shift towards the front of the pelvis, and Trion's structure distributes support by density zones to protect precisely where the load is most concentrated.
It combines high-recovery materials with strategic inserts that maintain a compact and lightweight profile, a chamois pad that disappears during the run.
