Winter cycling socks have to solve something harder than keeping you warm: keeping you warm without the foot sweating and then chilling, and without adding bulk that presses inside the shoe. Our winter collection brings together four different thermal technologies, made in Spain, so you can pick the one that best fits your cold.
The four technologies, and what each one is for
We work with four different constructions, unusual in cycling socks. Thermolite, a hollow fibre that traps air to insulate from the cold with barely any weight. Copper thread in the sole, with a plusher fabric, for copper's thermal and comfort properties. Spanish merino wool, which regulates temperature and keeps insulating even when damp, as well as controlling odour. And Nilit Heat™, a technical fibre that harnesses the body's own heat. Each tackles the cold in its own way, and all share the same goal: a warm, dry foot.
Thermal is not the same as thick
A good winter sock keeps you warm through its fibre, not its thickness. You want it to warm without squeezing, because a sock that's too thick compresses the foot inside the shoe, cuts off circulation and achieves the opposite, a cold foot. That's why we work with technical fibres and not simply more wool.
Which to choose for your cold
For damp cold and long outings, merino wool is hard to beat. For dry, intense cold with minimum bulk, Thermolite and Nilit Heat. And if you want that extra touch of plush comfort under the sole, the copper-thread model. If in doubt, at the Oviedo shop we'll help you choose.
